My Favourite Best Restaurants in Goa

My Favourite Best Restaurants in Goa

Goa has a really diverse, vibrant and cosmopolitan food scene that fuses Portuguese and Indian flavours, fresh seafood and cuisines from all over the world.

The diverse and exciting mixture of cultures and cuisines and the growth of the tourism industry means that Goa has really become a foodies paradise. The beach shacks offer tasty, affordable beach front dinning but make sure you also check out the best restaurants in Goa.

You can really have it all in Goa, from super cheap street food stalls and affordable and fun seaside beach shacks to stylish fine dining restaurants and luxurious beach resorts that wouldn’t be out of place in the Michelin guide – foodies are truly spoilt for choice in Goa!

Pin Me 🙂

The Goan experience wouldn’t be complete without a blissful, lazy day spent in one of Goa’s many beach shacks. Most beach shacks serve an affordable, multi cuisine, traveller orientated menu but there are some extra special restaurants in Goa that combine fine dining with beach lazing which I’ve mentioned in this article.

Many of the upmarket 5 star resorts and luxury hotels in Goa also have great restaurants, but why stay in to eat when there’s so much more to explore so. Make some time in your Goa itinerary to check out some of my favourite best restaurants in Goa.

The Best Restaurants in Goa

Thalassa, Vagator

Thalassa is a Greek restaurant with amazing views over the beach that is now one of the most famous and popular restaurants in Goa so you should book ahead here, especially if you want to dine at sunset in peak season.

Thalassa brings the romance of the Greek Islands straight to one of the most spectacular locations in Goa with mouth watering Greek food and views to die for while white table cloths and white curtains billow in the sea breeze.

The menu offers crispy, fresh salads and tasty appetizers like tzatziki and spicy prawn saganaki, and mouth watering meats and seafood. Thalassa is the place to be for a special sunset meal. Ozran, Small Vagator (Above the beach). (91)9850033537

Pousada by the Beach, Calangute

Pousada is one of the best restaurants in Goa and my top choice for upscale beach front dining in popular Calangute. Pousada serves a great selection of traditional Goan and Konkani cuisine as well as great pastas and salads right on Goa’s most popular beach but is still a peaceful spot making this one of my favourite beach shacks.

The restaurant is part of boutique hotel Pousada Tauma which is one of my favourite heritage hotels in Goa. Nr Goan Heritage Hotel, Calangute Beach (91) 9765804964

A Reverie, Calangute

Modern, contemporary A Reverie serves a fun, diverse and imaginative menu of European cuisine with an interesting Asian and south Indian twist.

At A Reverie you can have a gourmet exploration around the world without leaving Calangute!  Just reading the menu can be quite an experience and the bar is one of the best stocked in Goa.

It’s only open for dinner. Holiday Street, Gauravaddo, Calangute (91) 9823 174 927

Ashvem Beach in North Goa

La Plague, Ashvem

Upmarket La Plage is situated right on one of the finest, and quietest, beaches of North Goa. But its a cut above most of the beach shacks and is one of the very best restaurants in Goa.

The coloured tables and chairs create a charming stylish seaside ambience and the menu at La Plage is a great mix of French, Italian, and contemporary American dishes with sublime seafood and deserts.

La Plague is one of the hippest hangouts on the wide and uncrowded sands of trendy Ashwem Beach.  Ashvem Beach (+91) 9822121712

Mum’s Kitchen, Panjim

There are so many cuisines from all over the world in Goa but don’t miss the chance to try traditional Goan cuisine. Beware of imposters though, for real authentic Goan cuisine leave the tourist hotspots behind and visit Goa’s pleasant capital Panjim for the best Goan restaurants.

What makes Mum’s Kitchen special is that it was created to preserve and keep alive traditional Goan family recipes. All the dishes on the menu were taught to them by mothers from all over Goa and are served up in a charming, rustic, homely ambience.

The mixture of Goan Hindu and Goan Catholic dishes means there is a good mix of meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes. 854, martins building, Dayanand Bandodkar street, Panjim-Miramar Rd. (91)98221 75559

Hotel Venite, Panjim

Hotel Venite is another one of the best restaurants in Goa for Goan food and is a legendary restaurant and popular spot serving traditional Goan cuisine since 1955.

The vegetable vindaloo and spicy Portuguese inspired chouricos, (spiced sausages) or masala prawns are popular.

The décor is quirky and charming, I like sitting on the little, lit up balconies that overlook the street and watching the world go by. 31st January Rd, Panjim, (91) 98 5046 7008

Go with the Flow, Baga

Go with the Flow is one of the best restaurants in Goa and one of Goa’s most imaginative fine dining options.

The décor is quirky, stylish and funky and the menu is extensive, cosmopolitan, imaginative and served with flair. The kitchen is run by a Brazilian chef so its not surprising that the meat and steaks are really good here.

It is located in the gardens of a big old Portuguese villa, not in the main busy area of Baga but on the banks of the Baga creek with views over to Baga Beach. Baga River Road (nr Baga Bridge) (91) 7507771556 / (91) 7507771557

Sublime, Morjim

Sublime is another amazing place right on the sands of quiet Morjim Beach that has gained a reputation as one of Goa’s most innovative dining experiences.

The menu is an imaginative fusion of Indian and contemporary European cuisine, the starters and appetizers and steaks are especially good.

Sublime is open for lunch from 12- 3 but then closed until dinner time at 6pm. Central Morjim Beach Road, (+91)9822484051

Zeebop, Utorda

Zeebop is one of the most best beach shack restaurants in Goa located on the pristine, white sands of Utorda in South Goa – one of the best and longest beaches in all of Goa.

Not surprisingly the seafood is a highlight at Zeebop. It’s a great place for a long lazy lunch on the beach under the coconut grove or sunset drinks under the twinkling lights by the ocean. Utorda Beach (91) 9822154541

Sorry I’m not the type of person who takes photos of my food – I’m too eager to get stuck in eating it! But I’ll try and add some photos next time I visit these restuanrts and keep the post updated if I find any more great restaurants in Goa. Also make sure you check out my other Goa blog posts and Goa travel guides

Which is your favourite restaurant in Goa? Any more I should add to my list?

This was very informative. I rarely find bloggers mentioning the names of the restaurants. Usually, they just state the specialities of a location and leave it at that.
