I’ve have practiced yoga at some of the best studios and retreat centers in the country, and completed my yoga teacher training, so I can be your guide to yoga in Thailand.
If you’re thinking of taking a yoga retreat in Thailand, I hope this post will help you find the perfect one for you and plan an amazing yoga trip to the Land of Smiles!
Why I Love Yoga Retreats in Thailand
Whether you prefer to practice yoga on the beach of a beautiful, tropical island, or meditate in a monastery surrounded by golden Buddhist temples, jungles and mountains, you shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to combine visiting one of the world’s most friendly, fascinating and affordable countries with a rejuvenating yoga holiday in Thailand.
Thailand may not be as well known a yoga destination as India or Bali, but I believe that the combination of tropical landscape, zen-like Buddhist culture and friendly locals makes Thailand one of the best yoga destinations in the world.
There’s no shortage of beautiful places to visit and yoga and meditation retreats in Thailand to choose from. Whether you are looking for a luxury yoga retreat, wellness retreat, weight-loss and detox retreat, spiritual retreat, yoga teacher training or just a relaxing and affordable yoga holiday, there’s something for everyone no matter your yoga experience level or budget.
Did you know, Thailand is home to some of the world’s most affordable yoga retreats! The cost of a yoga retreat in Thailand starts from only $100/ £80 / €90 for a short 3 day retreat package! And of course if luxury is what you’re after you’ll find plenty of options too for a lot less than you would pay in Europe or America.
By the way, I’ve included retreat prices to help you choose the right retreat for your budget, but note that these are approximate prices due to fluctuations in currency exchange rates, so check the most up to date prices using the links provided to the retreats.
The weather in Thailand is normally warm and sunny so it’s perfect for practicing yoga outdoors. The best time to visit is between December – March for the best weather but be aware that June – November is the rainy season.

The Best Yoga Destinations in Thailand
You’ll find yoga retreats and yoga teacher trainings all over Thailand, from the beaches to the mountains, so the best destination depends on what you’re looking for.
The most popular places for yoga in Thailand are the beautiful islands in the south. Koh Phangan is most famous for the Full Moon party but the island’s super spiritual side makes it one of the world’s top yoga destinations full of yoga studios, tantra workshops and spiritual retreats.
If you’re looking for more luxury, or an overall fitness and wellness retreat, then the popular islands of Phuket and Koh Samui are the place to go. Both are home to several world-class wellness resorts offering yoga classes as part of fitness retreats, weight loss and detox programs.
In the north you’ll find Chiang Mai, the historical and cultural heart of Thailand. The Old City is packed with ancient temples, bustling night markets and amazing street food stalls. There are some incredible yoga retreats located in the jungle and mountains surrounding the city alongside waterfalls, elephant sanctuaries and hill tribe villages.
Further up the mountain the small, laidback, hippie mountain town of Pai is also popular with yogis and has plenty of yoga classes and unique natural wonders to explore.
How to Choose The Best Thailand Yoga Retreat For You
With so many options for Thailand yoga retreats you are sure to find the perfect one for you, no matter what your budget or what stage you are at in your yoga practice – your sure to find a yoga retreat in Thailand to suit.
There’s a huge variety of yoga, health, fitness and wellness retreats available in Thailand, so think about what you want to experience – do you want to join a purely yoga retreat or try other forms of fitness? Or maybe a comprehensive wellness retreat, weight-loss or detox program is what you need?
Other things to consider when choosing a retreat include the experience level, style of yoga taught and qualifications of the yoga teachers, and of course the location, facilities, accommodations and meals included in the package.
As well as daily yoga classes (asana lessons) many Thailand retreats also offer extra activities like meditation and pranayama sessions, Thai massages, cooking classes, trekking, cultural activities like visiting temples and elephant sanctuaries, or watersports like snorkeling and stand up paddle boarding (SUP), so your Thailand yoga vacation can be as relaxed or active as you like.
In addition to luxury yoga retreats there are some surprisingly affordable yoga retreats available, but do double check the standard of accommodation offered and the inclusions.
Budget retreats may only offer shared dormitory accommodation and the cost of private room upgrades, meals, spa treatments, airport transfers and additional activities can add up. So you might find that an all-inclusive retreat works out better value and provides a better experience overall.
It’s always important to do thorough research and check reviews before booking a retreat. I feel this especially important now after hearing of the allegations against the popular and famous Agama yoga school’s founder in Koh Phangan.
My favorite site that I use for checking reviews and testimonials is www.bookyogaretreats.com You can search for retreats all over the world and find out more about the classes, instructors, accommodation and food offered as well as booking your place, the best part is that you can check real reviews from people who’ve already been there so you know what to expect.
