Hostels are fun and a great way to meet travelers, but they can get expensive in Sydney! We spent the entire year in Australia without paying for accommodation. During three months working in Sydney, we stayed in 6 homes for free while housesitting! Highly recommend that for travelers!

Thanks for the tips Lianne! House sitting is an awesome way to save money on accommodation but I find that backpacker hostels are great for the social aspect and meeting other travellers
