My Review of Planet Hollywood Goa

My mum recently came to visit me in Goa. As it was her first time in India (and because she’s an amazing Mum!)  I really wanted to treat her and make sure she had a wonderful time so what better than to check out Goa’s newest 5-star luxury hotel – Planet Hollywood Goa!

My Review of Planet Hollywood Goa

Planet Hollywood Goa opened in June 2015 and offers a unique experience as it is the first and only Planet Hollywood resort outside the United States, so I was very excited to check out the Planet Hollywood experience for myself!

I was not disappointed! We were made to feel like a star from the very moment we stepped into the spacious and ultra cool lobby of Planet Hollywood Goa. Right from the start all members of staff just couldn’t do enough to help us.

As I checked into the room and explored the hotel I was really impressed with the modern and stylish American Hollywood theme that runs throughout the spacious beach front resort.

Location

This Hollywood style themed luxury resort is located on the pristine, uncrowded, soft white sand beach of Utorda in South Goa, a region known for some of the best beaches in Goa and home to the finest luxury resorts.

Utorda is a fantastic choice for a relaxing escape although if you want to experience the bustling markets and night life of Goa then North Goa might be better for you, but few can disagree that South Goa offers the best of Goa’s beaches.

Rooms

Planet Hollywood Goa has 115 luxury rooms designed in modern American motel style. My room was fit for a celeb, it was glamorous, glitzy, spacious and super comfortable with a super soft bed (soft beds are only found in high end resorts in India!)

Rooms also have plush details like satin sheets, velvety pillows with diamante details and sumptuous furnishings that compliment the film star theme. I also really enjoyed the leg and foot massager in the room – something I haven’t come across before which was a cool addition.

Every room has a different Hollywood movie theme with vibrant, modern art features and quotes and even dressing room stars for the room numbers.

I especially liked that the balconies had beds on them so you could really relax and soak up the views over the paddy fields without even leaving your room and I also loved the iridescent rainbow mosaic features in the spacious bathroom and in the swish swimming pool area.

Theme

What sets Planet Hollywood Goa apart from other luxury resorts in South Goa is the modern, stylish and glamorous Hollywood theme that runs through the whole 10 acres of this 5 star resort.

The theme carries right through the lobby areas, conference and spa rooms, 2 restaurants, bars, gym and swimming pool area right down to the serene, tropical gardens and pristine white sand and blissfully uncrowded beach.

The Heart Bar in the lobby that screened full length movies all day and the super stylish swimming pool area with the raised Jacuzzi part and the triangle shaped sun loungers were my favourite places to hang out while staying at Planet Hollywood Goa.

I also liked how lively, funky, up to date music was played throughout the resort, all the elements and stylish details give the resort a really vibrant and upbeat feel – a perfect blend of modern and luxury.

Food

One of the highlights of my stay at Planet Hollywood Goa was the impressive and varied multi cuisine food.

There are 2 stylish restaurants to choose from; Planet Dailies serves a delicious and varied mix of International, Far East Asian and Indian cuisines both  ‘al a carte’ style and as a lavish buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

It was great to be able to combine a continental breakfast at the same time also trying Indian breakfast favourites like dosas and idls to start the day.

By lunchtime I was usually on the beach so I mostly ate at one of the beach shacks. Zeebop, one of the best and most famous beach shacks in Goa, is just steps down the beach and worth checking out for a typical Goan beach shack experience.

Dinner at the ‘Fame’ restaurant at Planet Hollywood was a sumptuous affair of innovative and impeccably presented continental fare and melt in the mouth, fresh sushi topped off with impeccable service in a stunning poolside setting that makes you feel like a star.

Overall, I was constantly impressed with the quality and variation of the food at Planet Hollywood Goa and I also though that, for a 5 star resort, the food, drinks and spa treatments were really quite reasonably and affordably priced, they even have free yoga classes.

No bill shock here unlike at other resorts I’ve been to that charge you almost 1000 rupees for a cocktail!

Service

Planet Hollywood Goa is a gorgeous resort; the Hollywood theme, sumptuous rooms, facilities and food all set the stage for a very special and unique stay, but the highlight of my stay and the star of the show at Planet Hollywood Goa has to be the staff.

The service was really top notch, each and every member of staff was friendly, courteous and really couldn’t do enough to help, nothing was too much trouble.

Even though there were wedding ceremonies happening and large parties staying at the resort whilst I was there I was impressed that the service for the rest of the guests did not suffer and the beach side wedding at sunset looked truly spectacular!

I also loved the way that staff would make the effort to remember our preferences, for example at breakfast on the second day our server remember how we liked our tea without us having to remind him.

I was also ecstatic when a surprise cake with my blog logo on it was delivered to my room – a fantastic personal touch that really made me feel like a star!

My Review of Planet Hollywood Goa

I had high expectations from my stay at Planet Hollywood Goa, room rates start at about 9,000 Rupees per night ( that’s about £90 or US$130 ) and as Goa’s newest 5 star hotel I was expecting nothing but the best and was not disappointed.

I loved the way the Hollywood theme stylishly encompassed the whole hotel with vibrant features and innovate details, the rooms and facilities were plush and modern and lacked for nothing and the food and the service were a real highlight.

Plus, the beach, just steps away from my room through the tropical gardens, is definitely one of the best in the whole of Goa and is blissfully free of rubbish and vendors.

Honestly, there isn’t really much I could find to complain about Planet Hollywood Goa.

The approach road to the property was very bumpy and would benefit from better signage as our driver had a little trouble finding the hotel (I didn’t realise at first that Planet Hollywood provide a complimentary pick up from Goa airport!)

As a beach resort I also thought it was a shame that, at the time I visited, the resort did not have it’s own beach shack or any sun loungers or facilities directly on the beach.

There were however 3 shacks very close by including the famous Zeebop but it would have been nice to have some facilities on the beach just for Planet Hollywood guests, although when I asked about this they did say that they were planning to provide a beach shack in the near future.

You should also know that while the views of the balconies over the pool area or out across the paddy field were lovely none of the rooms have sea views as the buildings are set back a little way from the beach.

This is common with all the other luxury hotels on this stretch of the beach and I imagine it’s down to building regulations. A sea view from the balcony would really have been spectacular but the pool view rooms are still gorgeous or go for a paddy field view if you want a bit more privacy.

Staying at Planet Hollywood Resort is great if you want a relaxed holiday away from it all but there’s not much else around if your looking for more action with your holiday staying in North Goa might be better option.

Overall, our stay at Planet Hollywood Goa was just what my Mum and I needed – a modern, stylish and luxurious escape to relax and unwind and to be pampered like a star and escape the crowds, parties and noise of North Goa!

If you want peace and quiet, to have the best beaches in Goa almost to yourself and a luxurious and at the same time modern and funky stay with star appeal, perhaps for a honeymoon or couple’s retreat, then Planet Hollywood is the perfect choice.
