Where to Find Beach Huts in Goa and How to Book

Goa may be India’s smallest state but it boasts over 100 km of beautiful beaches and each one has a different vibe so check out my guide to Goa’s best beaches to find your perfect fit.

Generally speaking, North Goa is famous for parties while South Goa is much more relaxed, the beaches are less developed and less crowded and that’s where you’ll find most of the beach huts. You will find the largest selection of beach huts on Palolem Beach and some amazing luxury beach cottages on Agonda Beach in South Goa.

While North Goa is mostly beach resorts or hotels, there are also a few beach huts on the quiet and trendy beaches of Morjim, Ashvem, Mandrem and Arambol in North Goa. Staying on these beaches also gives you easy access to the exciting restaurants, shopping and nightlife scene of North Goa. There’s even a hidden luxury beach hut on popular Baga Beach!

It’s important to know that not all Goa beach huts have a ocean view and the best sea facing rooms get booked out months in advance, especially during the Christmas and New Year period and national holiday weekends.

The standard of beach huts in Goa varies from shaky basic flimsy plywood shacks, that are dismantled and reassembled every season, to some really impressive, well built, luxury air conditioned wooden cottages.

Most resorts have a range of room types to choose between, from budget garden view rooms to the more expensive ocean facing cottages. Some of the best luxury beach cottages in Goa even have private hot tubs or jacuzzis on the balcony with sea views!

But gone are the days when you could just show up and negotiate a bargain beach hut for a couple of hundred rupees – not only have standards dramatically increased but prices too. Nowadays most are available to book online at Booking.com and Agoda so you can read reviews to know what to expect and can ensure you have a good experience.

Typical Prices for Goa Beach Huts

Goa beach hut prices for the 2023/24 season vary a lot depending on seasonal demand, location, quality and room type/view. I’ve included links in this post to my handpicked recommendations so you can check reviews, availability and prices for your dates.

Most luxury beach cottages cost around 10,000 INR per night (approx £100/$120/€115.) Expect to pay between 3,000 – 6,000 INR for a comfortable mid range option or 2,000 INR for the cheapest basic beach hut.

Tips for Staying in a Goa Beach Hut and What to Expect

Before you book your trip here’s a few things to know and tips for staying in a beach hut in Goa.

Staying in a beach hut is the best way to soak up the natural beauty of Goa’s beaches. As you’d expect beach huts are usually situated right on the beach front so you’re never more than a couple of steps to the sea.

After a day spent swimming, sunbathing and relaxing on the beach you can watch the spectacular sunsets with a cold beer or cocktail in hand from your balcony and enjoy tasty Indian and international dishes from the beach shack restaurants.

Most beach huts in Goa now offer a double bed, sit out area, attached private bathrooms and a beach shack restaurant and bar with wifi. The standard of accommodation has improved a lot in recent years and now there is a wide selection available including luxury, mid range and budget huts which are usually situated a few rows back nestled in tropical gardens.

Luxury Goa beach huts are more solidly built and often referred to as beach cottages, beach bungalows or even beach villas and have more comfort and modern conveniences.

Mid range wooden beach cottages offer a comfortable stay with air conditioning within tropical gardens and a beach front multi-cuisine restaurant and bar. Note that sometimes wifi is only available in the restaurant and doesn’t reach the huts.

Budget beach huts are usually set back a little from the beachfront. They are more basic and are made from plywood so can feel a bit flimsy. They often have hard mattresses (as is common in India) and don’t offer hot water or air conditioning, so if those facilities are important to you be sure to check before booking.

boats on goa beach at sunset - the ultimate insiders goa travel guide

Another thing to know is that, due to their location, most beach hut resorts do not offer parking or a swimming pool, but the beach is literally just steps away and most beaches have a public parking area.

Some of the most popular resorts now also have another floor of huts on top. These offer the most stunning views over the beach and are great for couples, but not so well suited if you are traveling with children or elderly family members. Most beach hut rooms are not very sound proof, so while it’s nice to go to sleep to the sound of the waves, don’t stay near a nightclub if you want to get a peaceful nights sleep!

Be aware that not all Goa beach cottages have a sea view, some may offer a glimpse of the sea from the side, or be nestled in tropical gardens just steps from the ocean, but most beach resorts only have a couple of sea facing rooms which cost more and sell out well in advance. So if you’re dreaming of a sea view check the room description, book as far in advance as you can and expect to pay a premium – it’s worth it though!

The Best Time to Stay in a Beach Hut

The best time to visit Goa and stay in a beach hut is in the dry season from November – May.

Goa’s peak tourist season is between December and April when the weather is relatively cool (by Indian standards) and the skies are sunny and dry. Goa is at it’s most vibrant with plenty of colourful markets, parties and festivals happening.

In the monsoon season from June – October many beach hut resorts close, the beaches are too rough and unsafe for swimming and the heavy downpours are not exactly ideal for beach vacation.

Definitely book in advance during this time to avoid disappointment, and also on weekends or national holidays. Note that many resorts require a minimum stay of 3 nights during peak season.

I hope this post has helped you find the perfect beach hut in Goa and that you have an amazing time. If you need more tips for planning your trip to Goa and making the most of your time here check out my complete guide to Goa and all my other Goa blogs.
